Frequently Asked Questions - ABE Diploma Programmes
 
1)      Are these Diplomas accredited by the University Council of Jamaica?
ANSWER: The ABE Diplomas offered by B&B Institute are accredited by the UCJ. 
 
2)      Is there a cost to register for these programmes?
ANSWER: There is no registration fee applied to the ABE Diploma Programmes. 
 
3)      Can I apply for entry to either Diploma programme at any time?
ANSWER: The application periods for the ABE Diploma Programmes are: February – August, (1st Semester); and September – January (2nd Semester).
 
4)      Are examination fees included in the tuition cost?
ANSWER: Overseas examination fees are not included in the tuition fees paid to B&B Institute. ABE Diploma candidates must register with the ABE for the Exams - Registration fee is ₤35. Students are also charged ₤25 to sit each paper. (subject to change) Please consult your registration package for examination registration deadlines.
 
5)      When are the final examinations for the Diploma Programmes?
ANSWER: Exams for the Diploma Programme are held annually in December and June.
 
6)      Are the examinations held at B&B Institute?
ANSWER: Examinations for the ABE Diplomas are conducted independently of the institution and are not held at its Carlton Crescent location. Students will receive notification of the location of the examination in their ‘Examination Docket’, received directly from ABE.
 
7)      Are all nine modules compulsory for the ABE Diplomas?
ANSWER: ABE Diploma in Business Administration students must complete the following core subjects: Economics; Organisational Behaviour; Accounting; Business Communication; Marketing; HRM; Quantitative Methods; and Managerial Accounting. Students must also choose one of the following: Principles of Business Law or Systems Analysis.
 
8)      Does the ABE grant exemptions from any of its courses?
ANSWER: The ABE does not grant exemptions from any courses required for the award of either Diploma.
 
9)      Can students apply to the Student’s Loan Bureau for funding?
ANSWER: At the moment, students cannot receive funding from the Student’s Loan Bureau. 
 
10) Are there any other financial arrangements in place to assist students?
ANSWER: The institution offers flexible tuition payment plans to ease the financial burden of students. Students wishing to enter into such arrangements must do so in writing, outlining a payment schedule. Final approval is at the discretion of the Principal.
 
11) What can I do with an ABE Diploma?

Frequently Asked Questions – Heriot-Watt University Degree Programmes

 

 

1)      What is Interactive University?
ANSWER: Interactive University is an agent of Heriot-Watt University. Interactive University administers certain administrative functions on behalf of Heriot-Watt and other Universities throughout Scotland. These administrative functions include: disseminating course materials; negotiating agreements with international learning partners, etc.
 
2)      What is the relationship between Heriot-Watt University and B&B Institute of Business?
ANSWER: B&B Institute of Business serves as the local learning partner for the Heriot-Watt University’s Undergraduate Programmes in Jamaica. As the local learning partner B&B Institute is responsible for providing students with quality instruction for the University’s Programmes, as well as general administrative duties on behalf of the students.
 
3)      Who governs the Heriot-Watt undergraduate student?
ANSWER: Individuals registered in the Heriot-Watt Degree Programme are governed by the rules and regulations of both B&B Institute of Business and the Heriot-Watt University. Students are expected to abide by the general codes of conduct and other agreements entered into with the Institute. Students are advised to consult their B&B Student’s Guide for detailed information on the roles and responsibilities of B&B’s students.   Students are also expected to abide by the Heriot-Watt University’s academic polices and procedures, pertaining to: withdrawal from a course of study; plagiarism; changes to registration status; examination procedures. Students are advised to consult their Faculty Handbook for detailed information on these and other applicable University policies and procedures
 
4)      Who controls the Programme: Heriot-Watt University or B&B Institute of Business?
ANSWER: B&B Institute bears responsibility for all administrative and teaching functions pertaining to the Heriot-Watt University’s Undergraduate Degree Programme enrolled at the Institute. All courses and assessment undertaken as a part of any of the Undergraduate Degree Programmes are designed by official of Heriot-Watt University. The marking of all examination scripts and official notification of scores will be undertaken by Heriot-Watt University.
 
5)      Will my Degree be awarded by B&B Institute of Business, Heriot-Watt University or Interactive University?
ANSWER: All Degrees will be awarded by solely Heriot-Watt University. Neither ‘B&B Institute of Business’ nor ‘Interactive University’ will appear on the Certificate awarded by Heriot-Watt University.
 
6)      Are any exemptions offered to students?
ANSWER: A maximum of six exemptions can be awarded to students based on previous educational qualifications. Holders of ABE Diplomas will be eligible for the maximum, six course exemptions. Non-ABE Diploma students must obtain written approval of exemption status from Heriot-Watt University upon submission of their transcripts.   The exemption status of holders of UWI Certificates will be announced shortly.
 
7)      What is the duration of these degree programmes?
ANSWER: The normal duration of the Heriot-Watt undergraduate programme is three years, however, students have a maximum of ten-years within which to fulfill the requirements to be awarded a Degree.   Students who have been granted exemptions are expected to complete the programme before three years. 
 
8)      When can I apply for entry into the Degree Programme?
ANSWER: Registration for the Heriot-Watt Degree programmes is open throughout the year.   However, the deadline for accepting students who will start in the next academic year beginning in October is September 29.   Thus, if you want to start the programme this year you must register by September 29 
 
9)      When do classes begin?
ANSWER: Classes for Semester One for 2005 begins on October 1, and runs until December 17th, 2005. Semester Two begins on January 9th, 2006 until April 29th, 2006. 
 
10) Are any scholarships available to B&B’s Heriot-Watt Degree students?
ANSWER: At the moment, there are no scholarships available to B&B’s students, who are pursuing the Heriot-Watt Degree. However, students will be advised of any changes as soon as they occur.
 
11) Can students apply to the Student’s Loan Bureau for funding?
ANSWER: At the moment, students registered in the Heriot-Watt Degree Programme cannot receive funding from the Student’s Loan Bureau. Students will be informed of the outcome of upcoming negotiations.
 
12) Are there any other financial arrangements in place to assist students?
ANSWER: The institution offers flexible tuition payment plans to ease the financial burden of students. Students wishing to enter into such arrangements must do so in writing, outlining a payment schedule. Final approval is at the discretion of the Principal.

 

 

Frequently Asked Questions – CPS Programme
 
1)      Is there a cost to register for the CPS?
ANSWER: There is no cost to register with the Institute for the CPS Programme.
 
2)      Are the examination fees included in the tuition fee?
ANSWER: The examination fee is not included in the tuition fee paid to the Institute. The CPS examination fee for 2005 is: US$265.   Students will be duly advised of examination registration deadlines.
 
3)      When can I apply for the CPS?
ANSWER: The institution accepts applications for the CPS programme from March – August annually.
 
4)      When are the CPS exam held?
ANSWER: Each year, the CPS exams are held on the first Friday and Saturday in May and November. Our programme is intended to prepare students for the May Examinations.
 
5)      When do classes begin?
ANSWER: Classes generally begin on the second Monday in August and end in April of the following year. The 2005 programme dates are August 8th, 2005 – April 29th, 2006.
 
6)      Are there any financial arrangements in place to assist students?
ANSWER: The institution offers flexible tuition payment plans to ease the financial burden on our students. Students wishing to enter into such arrangements must do so in writing, outlining a payment schedule. Final approval is at the discretion of the Principal.
 
 
Frequently Asked Questions – CAP Programme
 
1)      Is there a cost to register for the CAP?
ANSWER: There is no registration fee attached to the CAP Programme.
 
2)      Are the examination fees included in the tuition fee?
ANSWER: The examination fee is not included in the tuition fee paid to the Institute. The examination fees for 2005 are: US$135 (IAAP non-members); US$110 (IAAP Members). Students will be duly advised of examination registration deadlines.
 
3)      Can I apply for the CAP programme at any time?
ANSWER: The institution accepts applications for the CAP programme from February – July; and September - December annually.
 
4)      When are the CAP exams?
ANSWER: Each year, the CAP exams are held on the first Friday and Saturday in May and November. Our programme is intended to prepare students for both the May and November Examinations.
 
5)      When do classes begin?
ANSWER: Classes generally begin on the second Monday in January and August of each year. The 2005 programme dates are January 10th, - April 27th, 2005; and July 4th, - October 29th, 2005.
 
6)      Are there any financial arrangements in place to assist students?
ANSWER: The institution offers flexible tuition payment plans to ease the financial burden of students. Students wishing to enter into such arrangements must do so in writing, outlining a payment schedule. Final approval is at the discretion of the Principal.
