Course Overview

The University of London BSc International Business is designed to prepare students for a career in modern business and management. The major areas of business administration are covered: accounting, finance, human resources, marketing, information systems and international business. Among other things, the programme is aimed at providing students with a systematic understanding of management-related problems and conceptual tools for analyzing and evaluating management issues.

In order to attain this qualification you must study twelve courses totaling 360 credits.   Students may choose any combination of courses providing that the pre-requisites for that particular course are met.  As such, it is possible to do as little as one and as much as four (the maximum allowable) courses in any one year.

Exemptions can be offered for courses based on the submission to University of London of the tertiary-level qualifications held and an assessment by that body.   However, the total number of exemptions granted is limited to a maximum FOUR courses.

Accreditation and Future Progression

Academic direction for this programme of BSc International Business is provided by  Royal Holloway, University of London. Academics that teach and assess  College- based students develop syllabuses, prepare study materials and are responsible  for the assessment of International Pogrammes students. This helps to ensure that the standard of awards made to International Programmes students are maintained at the same level as  the standards of awards made to students studying at a College of the University of London. In 2005,  the University of London International Programmes was audited by the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA), the UK's independent body for safeguarding the quality and standards of Higher Education. The QAA confirmed that confidence can be placed in the University's management of programmes and of the standards of awards made through the University of London International Programmes.

Graduates of the University of London BSc International Business progress to either a career in marketing,  general management or a specialization in one of the functional areas of business after completion of a post-graduate degree such as the Edinburgh Business School MBA in Marketing available at B&B.   Graduates may also decide to use the skills learnt to establish a successful business.

Entry Requirements

The normal entry requirements are either

a) Two CAPE/English A-level subjects at grades D or above 

or

b) A Diploma, Associate Degree or professional qualification from a recognised institution

You may obtain up to four exemptions depending on the type of qualifications you possess.   Mature applicants who do not have the minimum qualifications but who have appropriate work experience or other non-standard qualifications can start the programme via the Uiversity of London Access Entry Route available at B&B.  On completion of the Access Entry programme they would be exempted from four Foundation Stage courses.

Key Programme Dates

Registrations for the University of London International programmes must be received by August 15 each year.  Teaching terms run from October to May, with examinations being held in June.

Classes are held from Monday – Friday during the day (day programme) and evening (evening programme). 

Duration

The total time taken may vary from two years to seven years.   As mentioned, students must complete twelve courses but may choose any combination of courses providing that the pre-requisites for that particular course are met.  As such, it is possible to do as little as one and as much as four (the maximum allowable) courses in any one year.   The number of exemptions granted also affects the time to complete the programme.
